No one cares that you’re back on again

With February 14th racing to us, I can’t help but feel like I need to brace myself.

There will be flowers, gifts, “I love you” comments everywhere and we even have the Galentines rebrand that the Hallmark holiday will rope you into.

I probably sound like a hater but I am not I promise.

Every year on Valentines' Day I get excited for the discounted candy that will be available the next day at drug stores.

Then my overthinking nature sets in making me realize that we dedicated the shortest month ever to Black History month and it's always overshadowed by our capitalist nature to show how much we “care” about our partners.

I know that was a lot to unpack but I’m sorry but when did we turn to such pageantry?

Shouldn’t we love our partners every other day of the year?

How do flowers and chocolate prove that you love me and why can’t I get that on a regular basis?

Why are we not donating to causes that help end racism or putting our attention towards changing the system so black men and women are not constantly discriminated against in America?
